The hadith of Ibn 'Umar explains the posture and supplications that Prophet Muhammad used to do during tashahhud. Tashahhud is a part of salat, which is an Islamic prayer. During tashahhud, the Prophet would place his left hand on his left knee and his right hand on his right knee. He would then raise his right finger next to the thumb while making supplications with it. His left hand was stretched out on his left knee as well.
