Sahih Muslim 389f (Book 5, Hadith 103) #8417
Countering Confusion During Prayer

SUMMARY: When one is praying, the devil may come and confuse them to the point that they do not know how much they have prayed. To counter this, two prostrations should be performed while sitting down.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah said: When any one of you stands up to pray, the devil comes to him and confuses him to that he does not know how much he has prayed. If any one of you has such an experience he should perform two prostrations while sitting down (in qa'da).

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain vigilant during prayer , Perform two prostrations while sitting
EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abu Huraira speaks of a situation in which one is praying and the devil comes to them and confuses them so that they do not know how much they have prayed. To counter this confusion, it is recommended to perform two prostrations while sitting down in qa'da. This hadith teaches us that we must remain vigilant during prayer as the devil will try to distract us from our worship of Allah SWT. It also teaches us that if we find ourselves confused or distracted during prayer, we can perform two prostrations while sitting down in order to regain focus and clarity on our prayer.
