The Purpose of Mosques

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned against using mosques for purposes other than worship.

Sulaiman b. Buraida reported on the authority of his father that when the Messenger of Allah had said prayer a man stood up and said: Who called for a red camel? (Upon this) the Messenger of Allah said: May it not be restored to you! The mosques are built for what they are meant.

QUICK LESSONS:
Use Mosques only for their intended purpose- praying and worshipping Allah alone

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the purpose of mosques and why they should be used for worship only. It was narrated by Sulaiman b. Buraida on the authority of his father that when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) had said prayer a man stood up and asked who called for a red camel? To this, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) replied with “May it not be restored to you!” He then went on to explain that mosques are built for what they are meant - which is to pray and worship Allah alone. This hadith teaches us that we should use our mosques only for their intended purpose - which is to pray and worship Allah alone - instead of using them as marketplaces or any other activities unrelated to worshipping God.
