Sahih Muslim 561a (Book 5, Hadith 86) #8401
Eating Garlic Before Going to the Mosque

SUMMARY: Eating garlic before going to the mosque is discouraged.

Ibn 'Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah said during the battle of Khaybar: He who ate of this plant, i. e. garlic, should not come to the mosques. In the narration of Zubair, there is only a mention of" battle" and not of Khaybar.

QUICK LESSONS:
Avoid eating garlic before going to the mosque.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith of Ibn 'Umar states that it is not recommended for a person to eat garlic before going to the mosque. This hadith was said during the battle of Khaybar, and in another narration by Zubair, only a mention of "battle" was made without mentioning Khaybar specifically. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and how they affect our environment, especially when we are in a place like a mosque which is meant for worship and prayer. We should take care not to bring any bad odors or smells into such places as it can be distracting for others who are there trying to focus on their prayers.
