Sahih al-Bukhari 84 (Book 3, Hadith 26) #84
Flexibility in Rituals

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) showed leniency and allowed people to perform certain rituals in a different order than prescribed.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Somebody said to the Prophet (during his last Hajj), "I did the slaughtering before doing the Rami'. The Prophet beckoned with his hand and said, "There is no harm in that". Then another person said".I got my head shaved before offering the sacrifice". The Prophet beckoned with his hand saying, "There is no harm in that".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow religious rituals as per their prescribed orders but be flexible when needed due to circumstances beyond your control .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the Prophet's ﷺ leniency and flexibility when it comes to religious rituals. In this particular case, two people asked the Prophet ﷺ if they could do certain rituals out of order - one person asked if he could slaughter his sacrifice before doing the ritual stoning ('Rami') and another asked if he could shave his head before offering his sacrifice. The Prophet ﷺ responded by gesturing with his hand that there was no harm in either of these actions. This hadith teaches us that although religious rituals should be done according to their prescribed order, Allah is merciful and understanding; He will forgive us for any mistakes we make or any changes we have to make due to circumstances beyond our control.
