Greeting During Prayer

SUMMARY: Greeting someone while they are engaged in prayer is not appropriate.

Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah sent me on an errand. I (having done the business assigned to me came back and) joined him as he was going (on a ride). Qutaiba said that he was saying prayer while he rode. I greeted him. He gestured to me. When he completed the prayer. he called me and said: You greeted me just now while I was engaged in prayer. (Qutaiba said): His (Prophet's face) was towards the east, as he was praying.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect and reverence when engaging with people who are praying. Be mindful of your own actions and behaviour when you yourself are praying.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Jabir tells us that it is not appropriate to greet someone while they are engaged in prayer. This is because the Prophet Muhammad was gesturing to Jabir when he greeted him, indicating that it was inappropriate for him to do so. We can learn from this hadith that we should always show respect and reverence when engaging with people who are praying, and avoid any kind of distraction or disruption. We should also be mindful of our own actions and behaviour when we ourselves are praying, as this will help us stay focused on our worship and ensure that we remain respectful towards others around us.
