Revelation of Verse for Prayer Direction

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the revelation of a verse from the Quran which commanded Muslims to turn their faces towards the Ka'ba when praying.

Al-Bara' b. 'Azib reported: I said prayer with the Apostle turning towards Bait-ul-Maqdis for sixteen months till this verse of Surah Baqara wis revealed:" And wherever you are turn your faces towards it" (ii. 144). This verse was revealed when the Apostle had said prayer. A person amongst his people passed by the people of Ansar as they were engaged in prayer. He narrated to them (this command of Allah) and they turned their faces towards the Ka'ba.

Follow Allah's commands without hesitation or doubt .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Muslims were instructed to change their direction of prayer from Jerusalem to Mecca. Before this revelation, Muslims used to pray facing Jerusalem for sixteen months until Allah revealed a verse in Surah Baqara that commanded them to turn their faces towards the Ka'ba instead. A person who was among them passed by the people of Ansar and told them about this commandment from Allah and they changed their direction accordingly. This hadith teaches us that we should always follow Allah's commands without hesitation or doubt as He knows what is best for us even if it may seem strange at first glance. It also shows us how important it is for us as believers to be obedient and humble before our Creator and Lord so that we can receive His blessings in our lives.
