Reciting Short Surahs During Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would recite a short surah or a small surah when he heard a child crying in the company of his mother during prayer.

Anas reported: The Messenger of Allah would listen to the crying of a lad in the company of his mother, in prayer, and he would recite a short surah or a small surah.
وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ مَعَ أُمِّهِ وَهُوَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَيَقْرَأُ بِالسُّورَةِ الْخَفِيفَةِ أَوْ بِالسُّورَةِ الْقَصِيرَةِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was known for his compassion and mercy towards all people, especially children. This hadith shows us that even during prayer, the Prophet was willing to pause and recite a short surah or ayat to comfort a child who was crying in the presence of their mother. This teaches us that we should always be mindful of those around us and be willing to help them out whenever possible. It also shows us that we should not let our religious obligations get in the way of being kind and compassionate towards others. We can learn from this hadith that it is important to take care of our spiritual needs while also taking care of those around us who may need help or comfort.
