The Importance of Brevity in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed Uthman b. Abu'l-'As to be brief when leading people in prayer.

Uthman b. Abu'l-'As reported: The last thing which the Messenger of Allah instructed me was: When you lead the people in prayer, be brief.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَابْنُ، بَشَّارٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، قَالَ آخِرُ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ إِذَا أَمَمْتَ قَوْمًا فَأَخِفَّ بِهِمُ الصَّلاَةَ
