Sahih Muslim 465a (Book 4, Hadith 202) #8207
The Importance of Reciting Surahs During Prayer

SUMMARY: Mu'adh b. Jabal used to pray with the Prophet Muhammad and then lead his people in prayer. One night, a man left the prayer early and was accused of being a hypocrite. He went to the Prophet Muhammad to explain what happened, and the Prophet taught him which surahs should be recited in prayer.

Jabir reported that Mu'adh b. Jabal used to pray with the Apostle , then came and led his people in prayer. One night he said the night prayer with the Messenger of Allah . He then came to his people and led them in prayer beginning with Surat al-Baqara. A man turned aside, pronounced the taslim (salutation for concluding the prayer), then prayed alone and departed. The people said to him: Have you become a hypocrite, so and so? He said: I swear by Allah that I have not, but I will certainly go to Allah's Messenger and will inform (him) about this. He then came to the Messenger of Allah and said: Messenger of Allah, we look after camels used for watering and work by day. Mu'adh said the night prayer with you. He then came and began with Surat al-Baqara. Allah's Messenger then turned to Mu'adh and said: Are you there to (put the people) to trial? Recite such and recite such (and such a surah). It is transmitted on the authority of Jabir, as told by Sufyan, that he (the Holy Prophet) had said: "By the sun and its morning brightness" (Surah xci), "By brightness" (Surah xciii), "By the night when it spreads" (Surah xcii), and "Glorify the name of thy most high Lord" (Surah lxxxii).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how important it is for Muslims to recite certain surahs during their prayers as instructed by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In this hadith, Mu’adh b. Jabal was leading his people in prayer when one man left early before finishing it off with salutations or taslims as they are known in Arabic language; he was accused of being a hypocrite but he denied it and went straight away to ask Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about what happened so that he could clear himself from any wrongdoings or accusations made against him by others who were present at that time during his prayers session with them all together as one group or congregation known as Jama’ah in Arabic language; upon hearing this incident from him, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught him which surahs should be recited during prayers such as “By the sun and its morning brightness” (Surah xci), “By brightness”(Surah xciii), “By the night when it spreads”(Surah xcii)and “Glorify the name of thy most high Lord”(Surah lxxxii). This hadith teaches us how important it is for Muslims to recite certain surahs during their prayers according to instructions given by our beloved prophet ﷺ so that we can gain maximum rewards from Allah Almighty for our good deeds done through supplications or duas made while praying five times daily obligatory on every Muslim adult male & female alike; also this hadith teaches us not only about importance of reciting certain verses from Quranic chapters but also teaches us an important lesson about not accusing anyone without proper evidence & proof because if we do so then we will be held accountable on Day Of Judgment for any false accusations made against innocent people due to lack of knowledge & understanding on our part regarding Islamic teachings & principles laid down by Allah Almighty through His Last Messenger ﷺ .
