Purifying Without Water

SUMMARY: A man came to Umar and told him that he had a seminal emission but could not find water to clean himself. Umar gave him advice on how to purify himself without water.

'Abd al-Rahman b. Abza mnated it on the authority of his father that a man came to Umar and said: I have had a seminal emission but I found no water, and the rest of the hadith is the same but with this addition: 'Amr said: 0 Commander of the Faithful, because of the right given to you by Allah over me, if you desire, I would not narrate this hadith to anyone.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for purity even if you don't have access to resources like water at the time .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about purifying oneself without water when one has a seminal emission. Umar was asked by a man who had an emission but could not find any water to clean himself with. Umar advised the man that he should perform tayammum instead of using water for purification in this situation. Tayammum is performed by striking both hands on pure earth or sand and then wiping the face and hands with them until they are clean from impurities such as dirt or sweat. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive for purity even if we do not have access to water, as Allah has provided us with other means of achieving it through tayammum in such cases. It also teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and take responsibility for them, as the man was willing to accept whatever punishment Umar deemed necessary for his action despite having no control over it due to lack of access to resources like water at the time.
