Sahih Muslim 363b (Book 3, Hadith 128) #7976
Prohibiting the Eating of Dead Animals

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad saw a dead goat that had been given in charity and advised not to eat it as it is prohibited.

Ibn 'Abbas said: The Messenger of Allah saw a dead goat, which had been given in charity to the freed slave-girl of Maimuna. The Messenger of Allah said: Why don't you make use of its skin? They (the Companions around the Holy Prophet) said: It is dead. Upon this he said: It is the eating (of the dead animal) which is prohibited.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic teachings even if they seem insignificant at first glance; Be generous with what you have; Share with those who are less fortunate than yourself; Think before you act; Make use of resources available around you; Be mindful of your actions .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Ibn 'Abbas, tells us about the time when the Prophet Muhammad saw a dead goat that had been given in charity to a freed slave-girl of Maimuna. When he asked why they weren't using its skin, they replied that it was dead. He then said that eating such an animal is prohibited. This teaches us that we should not consume any kind of meat from animals which have died naturally or through slaughtering without proper Islamic ritual slaughtering. We should also be mindful of our actions and think before we act as this was an example set by the Prophet himself.

This hadith also teaches us about charity and how even small acts can make a difference in someone's life, like giving away something as simple as a dead goat can bring joy to someone else's life. It also shows us how important it is to be generous with what we have and share with those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Lastly, this hadith reminds us to always follow Islamic teachings even if they seem insignificant at first glance because Allah knows best what is beneficial for us in both this world and the hereafter.
