Sahih Muslim 341 (Book 3, Hadith 95) #7943
The Importance of Modesty

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of being modest and not walking around naked.

Al-Miswar b. Makhrama reported: I was carrying a heavy stone and my lower garment was loose, and it, therefore, slipped off (so soon) that I could not place the stone (on the ground) and carry to its proper place. Upon this the Messenger of Allah said: Return to your cloth (lower garment), take it (and tie it around your waist) and do not walk naked.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of modesty and wearing appropriate clothing. It was narrated by Al-Miswar b. Makhrama who was carrying a heavy stone when his lower garment slipped off so he could not place the stone on the ground and carry it to its proper place. Upon this, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to him to return to his cloth, take it and tie it around his waist and not walk naked. This hadith teaches us that we should always be modest in our dress code as well as our behavior in order to maintain dignity and respect for ourselves as well as others around us. We should also strive to wear appropriate clothing that covers our body parts properly so that we do not attract unnecessary attention or cause discomfort for those around us.
