Taking a Bath Together

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad and his wife Aisha took a bath from the same vessel of water, which contained seven to eight seers or fifteen to sixteen pounds.

'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah took a bath from the vessel of water And I and he (the Holy Prophet) took a bath from the same vessel. And in the hadith narrated by Sufyan the words are:" from one vessel". Qutaiba said: Al-Faraq is three Sa' (a cubic measuring of varying magnitude).

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your spouse, be modest when taking baths with them if you are married .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad and his wife Aisha taking a bath together from one vessel of water. The vessel was said to contain seven to eight seers or fifteen to sixteen pounds of water. A seer is an ancient unit of measurement that is equivalent to around two kilograms or four and a half pounds. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible for married couples in Islam to take baths together as long as they are modestly clothed while doing so. It also shows us how much respect the Prophet Muhammad had for his wife, as he chose not bathe alone even though he could have done so with ease due to his status in society at the time. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about Islamic measurements such as Faraq which is three Sa', where Sa' refers to an ancient unit of measurement equivalent two kilograms or four and a half pounds.
