Ablution and Cleanliness Before Sleep

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised Umar ibn al-Khattab to perform ablution, wash his sexual organ and then go to sleep if he became Junbi during the night.

Ibn Umar reported: Umar b. al-Khattab said to the Messenger of Allah , that he became Junbi during the night. The Messenger of Allah said to him: Perform ablution, wash your sexual organ and then go to sleep.
وَحَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ ذَكَرَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ تُصِيبُهُ جَنَابَةٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ تَوَضَّأْ وَاغْسِلْ ذَكَرَكَ ثُمَّ نَمْ

This hadith is about the importance of cleanliness and ablution before going to sleep. It was narrated by Ibn Umar that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised Umar ibn al-Khattab to perform ablution, wash his sexual organ and then go to sleep if he became Junbi during the night. This hadith teaches us that it is important for us to be clean before we go to bed in order for us not only physically but also spiritually be pure when we wake up in the morning. We should make sure that our bodies are free from any impurities or dirt so that we can start our day with a fresh mind and body. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about self-discipline as it encourages us not only take care of our physical hygiene but also maintain a spiritual purity by performing ablutions regularly before going to bed at night.
