Sahih Muslim 274a (Book 2, Hadith 93) #7797
Wiping Over Socks During Ablution

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went out to relieve himself and Mughira accompanied him with a jug of water. When he returned, the Prophet performed ablution and wiped over his socks.

The son of Mughira b. Shu'ba reported: The Messenger of Allah went out for relieving himself. Mughira went with him carrying a jug full of water. When he (the Holy Prophet) came back after relieving himself, he poured water over him and he performed ablution and wiped over his socks; and in the narration of Ibn Rumh there is" till" instead of" when".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform ablutions before prayer in order to be spiritually clean for your prayers to be accepted by Allah SWT .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of performing ablutions before prayer in Islam. It is narrated by the son of Mughira b. Shu'ba that when the Prophet Muhammad went out to relieve himself, Mughira accompanied him with a jug full of water. When he returned, he poured water over him and performed ablution and wiped over his socks as part of it. This act teaches us that we should perform ablutions before prayer in order to be spiritually clean for our prayers to be accepted by Allah SWT. It also teaches us that wiping over our socks is allowed during this process if they are still on our feet after performing wudu or taking a shower for example, so we don't have to take them off every time we want to pray or perform wudu again after taking them off once already during wudu or showering for example.
