Sahih Muslim 272b (Book 2, Hadith 90) #7794
Surprising Conversion to Islam

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the surprise of Abdullah's friends when Jarir embraced Islam after the revelation of al-Ma'ida.

This hadith is narrated on the same authority from A'mash by another chain of transmitters like one transmitted by Abu Mu'awyia. The hadith reported by 'Isa and Sufyan has these words also: " This hadith surprised the friends of Abdullah" for Jarir had embraced Islam after the revelation of al-Ma'ida.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the surprise of Abdullah's friends when Jarir embraced Islam after the revelation of al-Ma'ida. The Ma’ida was a chapter in the Quran that was revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during his time in Medina. It contains many verses that talk about how Muslims should treat each other and how they should live their lives according to Islamic teachings. When Jarir accepted Islam after this revelation, it surprised Abdullah's friends because they did not expect him to do so. This hadith teaches us that we should never underestimate anyone’s potential for change and growth; no matter what their past may be like or what people think of them, everyone has a chance at redemption if they are willing to accept it. We must also remember that Allah SWT is always merciful and forgiving; He will always give us another chance if we sincerely repent for our mistakes and strive towards betterment in our lives.
