Sahih Muslim 264 (Book 2, Hadith 76) #7780
Answering Nature's Call with Respect

SUMMARY: When answering the call of nature, one should not face towards the Qibla, but rather turn their face towards the east or west.

Abu Ayyub reported: The Apostle of Allah said: Whenever you go to the desert, neither turn your face nor turn your back towards the Qibla while answering the call of nature, but face towards the east or the west. Abu Ayyub said: When we came to Syria we found that the latrines already built there were facing towards the Qibla. We turned our faces away from them and begged forgiveness of the Lord. He said: Yes.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect even in private moments by turning away from the direction of prayer and asking for forgiveness if necessary
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about showing respect when answering nature's call. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that when going to the desert, one should not turn their face or back towards the Qibla while relieving themselves. Instead, they should turn their faces either east or west. Abu Ayyub reported that when they came to Syria they found latrines already built facing towards the Qibla and so they turned away from them and asked for forgiveness from Allah. This hadith teaches us to show respect even in our most private moments by turning away from the direction of prayer and asking for forgiveness if we have done something wrong out of ignorance.
