Sahih Muslim 233c (Book 2, Hadith 19) #7723
Expiation of Sins Through Prayers

SUMMARY: The five daily prayers, one Friday prayer to the next, and from Ramadhan to Ramadhan are expiations for sins committed in between them as long as one avoids major sins.

Abu Huraira reported: Verily the Messenger of Allah said: The five (daily) prayers and from one Friday prayer to the (next) Friday prayer, and from Ramadhan to Ramadhan are expiations for the (sins) committed in between (their intervals) provided one shuns the major sins.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray five times a day; Attend one Friday prayer to the next; Fast during Ramadan; Avoid major sins
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that if we pray the five daily prayers, attend one Friday prayer to the next, and fast during Ramadan then our minor sins will be forgiven. However, this does not apply if we commit major sins such as murder or theft. Praying is an important part of a Muslim's life and it is a way for us to stay connected with Allah. It also helps us stay away from sinning because when we pray regularly it reminds us of Allah's presence in our lives and encourages us to do good deeds instead of bad ones. Additionally, fasting during Ramadan helps cleanse our souls from any wrongdoings that may have been done throughout the year. Therefore, by praying regularly and fasting during Ramadan we can ensure that our minor sins are forgiven while avoiding major ones altogether.
