The Necessity of Ablution for Prayer

SUMMARY: Prayer will not be accepted unless one performs ablution.

Hammam b. Munabbih who is the brother of Wahb b. Munabbih said: This is what has been transmitted to us by Abu Huraira from Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah and then narrated a hadith out of them and observed that the Messenger of Allah said: The prayer of none amongst you would be accepted in a state of impurity until he performs ablution.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ بْنُ هَمَّامٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، أَخِي وَهْبِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ قَالَ هَذَا مَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏.‏ فَذَكَرَ أَحَادِيثَ مِنْهَا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ لاَ تُقْبَلُ صَلاَةُ أَحَدِكُمْ إِذَا أَحْدَثَ حَتَّى يَتَوَضَّأَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of performing ablution before prayer in order to have it accepted by Allah. It was narrated by Hammam b. Munabbih and Wahb b. Munabbih who heard it from Abu Huraira who heard it directly from Prophet Muhammad himself. Performing ablution is a ritual that involves washing certain parts of the body such as hands, face and feet with water or sand in order to become clean and pure before prayer or any other religious activity such as reading Quran or entering a mosque etc.. It is an important part of Islamic faith which teaches us to stay clean both physically and spiritually so that we can be closer to God through our prayers and other activities related to religion.
