The Prophet's Special Prayer for His Ummah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has reserved a special prayer for the intercession of his Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.

Anas b. Malik reported: Verily the Messenger of Allah said: There is for every apostle a prayer with which he prays (to Allah) for his Ummah. I have reserved my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَابْنُ، بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَانَا - وَاللَّفْظُ، لأَبِي غَسَّانَ - قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ، - يَعْنُونَ ابْنَ هِشَامٍ - قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ دَعْوَةٌ دَعَاهَا لأُمَّتِهِ وَإِنِّي اخْتَبَأْتُ دَعْوَتِي شَفَاعَةً لأُمَّتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the special prayer that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has reserved for his Ummah, or community, on the Day of Resurrection. On this day, all people will be judged by Allah and sent to either Heaven or Hell based on their deeds in life. The Prophet's prayer is meant to be an intercession - a plea to Allah - that He may forgive and show mercy upon those who have followed His teachings and done good deeds in life. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to live our lives according to Islamic teachings so that we can benefit from this special prayer when it comes time for judgement day.
