Punishment for False Oaths and Suicide

SUMMARY: Taking a false oath on a religion other than Islam and killing oneself with anything will lead to punishment in the Fire of Hell.

It is narrated on the authority of Thabit b. Dahhak that the Messenger of Allah observed: He who took deliberately a false oath on a religion other than Islam would become that which he had professed. And he who killed himself with anything Allah would torment him with that in the Fire of Hell.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، وَعَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، ح

This hadith is about the consequences of taking a false oath on a religion other than Islam, as well as killing oneself with anything. This hadith teaches us that we should not take false oaths or commit suicide, as it is against Islamic teachings and will result in punishment from Allah. We should also strive to stay true to our faith and practice it faithfully, so that we can avoid such punishments in the hereafter.
