Warning Against Disbelief and Killing

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) warned his followers against turning back to disbelief after him by killing each other.

It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Umar that the Apostle (may peace and blessings be upon him) observed on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage Woe unto you distress unto you! Don't turn back as unbelievers after me by striking the necks of one another.
وَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلاَّدٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ وَاقِدِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَاهُ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ ‏ "‏ وَيْحَكُمْ - أَوْ قَالَ وَيْلَكُمْ - لاَ تَرْجِعُوا بَعْدِي كُفَّارًا يَضْرِبُ بَعْضُكُمْ رِقَابَ بَعْضٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is warning his followers against turning back to disbelief after him by killing each other during the Farewell Pilgrimage. He is reminding them that if they do so, it will bring great distress and woe unto them in this life and the hereafter. This hadith teaches us that we should not turn away from faith or resort to violence when faced with disagreement or differences of opinion, but rather strive for peace through dialogue and understanding of one another’s perspectives. It also reminds us of our responsibility as Muslims to protect one another’s lives, honor, property, beliefs, opinions, etc., regardless of whether we agree with them or not.
