Reciting Al-Fatiha in Prayers

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite Al-Fatiha along with another Sura in the first two rak'at of the Zuhr and the 'Asr prayers.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abi Qatada: My father said, "The Prophet used to recite Al-Fatiha along with another Sura in the first two rak'at of the Zuhr and the 'Asr prayers and at times a verse or so was audible to us".
حَدَّثَنَا الْمَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ يَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ مِنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ، وَسُورَةٍ سُورَةٍ، وَيُسْمِعُنَا الآيَةَ أَحْيَانًا‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to recite Al-Fatiha along with another sura in his prayers. It was narrated by Abdullah bin Abi Qatada, who said that his father told him that they could hear some verses of the recited suras during the first two rak’ats of Zuhr and ‘Asr prayers. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to make our prayer meaningful by reciting Quran during it. We should also try to understand what we are reciting so that we can benefit from it spiritually and emotionally.
