Sahih al-Bukhari 759 (Book 10, Hadith 153) #733
Reciting Surahs During Prayers

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite Al-Fatiha and two other surahs in the first two rak'at of Zuhr, 'Asr, and Fajr prayers. He would prolong the first rak'a of Fajr prayer and shorten the second.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abi Qatada: My father said, "The Prophet in Zuhr prayers used to recite Al-Fatiha along with two other surahs in the first two rak'at: a long one in the first rak'a and a shorter (Sura) in the second, and at times the verses were audible. In the 'Asr prayer the Prophet used to recite Al-Fatiha and two more surahs in the first two rak'at and used to prolong the first rak'a. And he used to prolong the first rak'a of the Fajr prayer and shorten the second.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect for religion, Patience, Focus on understanding religious teachings
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us how to pray properly by reciting certain surahs during each prayer. During Zuhr prayers, he would recite Al-Fatiha along with two other surahs in the first two rak’as; a long one in the first rak’a and a shorter one in the second. In ‘Asr prayers he would recite Al-Fatiha and two more surahs in the first two rak’as while prolonging the first one. For Fajr prayers he would also recite Al-Fatiha but this time he would prolong the first rak’a while shortening the second one. This hadith teaches us that we should take our time when praying so that we can focus on what we are saying and understand its meaning better.
