Sahih al-Bukhari 758 (Book 10, Hadith 152) #732
Prolonging & Shortening Prayers

SUMMARY: Sa'd used to pray the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers in a similar way to the Prophet (ﷺ) by prolonging the first two rak'at and shortening the last two rak'at.

Narrated Jabir bin Samura: Sa'd said, "I used to pray with them a prayer similar to that of Allah's Messenger (the prayer of Zuhr and 'Asr) reducing nothing from them. I used to prolong the first two rak'at and shorten the last two rak'at"'.Umar said to Sa'd "This was what we thought about you".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Allah's Messenger's example of prayer, Properly time your prayer length according to Sunnah

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how one should pray their Zuhr and 'Asr prayers. It is narrated by Jabir bin Samura that Sa'd said he used to pray these two prayers in a similar way to what Allah's Messenger did. He would prolong the first two rak'at and shorten the last two rak'at. When Umar heard this he said that this was what they thought about him. This hadith teaches us that we should follow how Allah's Messenger prayed his salah as it is an example for us on how we should be praying our salah too. We can learn from this hadith that when praying our Zuhr and 'Asr salahs, we should prolong our first two rak’ats but shorten our last two rak’ats so as not to make them too long or too short.
