Sahih Muslim 25a (Book 1, Hadith 41) #7306
Professing Faith in Allah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of professing faith in Allah and how it will be beneficial on the Day of Judgment.

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah said to his uncle at the time of his death: Make a profession of it that there is no god but Allah and I will bear testimony (of your being a Muslim) on the Day of judgment. But he (Abu Talib) refused to do so. Then Allah revealed this verse: " Verily thou canst not guide to the right path whom thou lovest. And it is Allah Who guideth whom He will and He knoweth best who are the guided" (28. 56).

QUICK LESSONS:
Profess faith in Allah

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of professing faith in Allah. It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah said to his uncle at the time of his death, “Make a profession that there is no god but Allah and I will bear testimony on your behalf on the Day of Judgment”. However, his uncle refused to do so. In response, God revealed a verse from Quran which states “Verily thou canst not guide to the right path whom thou lovest. And it is Allah Who guideth whom He will and He knoweth best who are guided”(28. 56). This verse emphasizes that only God has control over who He guides and who He does not guide; even if someone loves another person dearly, they cannot guarantee their guidance or salvation without them professing faith in God themselves. Therefore, this hadith serves as an important reminder for us all to make sure we have professed our faith in God so we can be guided by Him and receive His mercy on Judgment Day.
