Sahih Muslim 22 (Book 1, Hadith 36) #7301
The Commandment to Fight for Faith

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad was commanded to fight against people until they accept the oneness of Allah, believe in Muhammad as His messenger, and practice prayer and charity.

It has been narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and they establish prayer, and pay Zakat and if they do it, their blood and property are guaranteed protection on my behalf except when justified by law, and their affairs rest with Allah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for one's faith, Respect other's beliefs

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the commandment given by Allah to Prophet Muhammad to fight against people who do not accept the oneness of God and do not believe in him as His messenger. It is also mentioned that if these people accept these two conditions, their blood and property will be protected by the Prophet except when justified by law. This hadith teaches us that we should strive for our faith even if it means fighting for it but only when necessary. We should also respect other's beliefs and protect them from harm unless they are doing something wrong according to law.
