Sahih al-Bukhari 73 (Book 3, Hadith 15) #73
The Wisdom of Not Wishing To Be Like Others

SUMMARY: We should not wish to be like anyone else, except for those who are given wealth and use it in a righteous manner, or those who are given wisdom and act upon it by teaching it to others.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud: The Prophet said, "Do not wish to be like anyone except in two cases. (The first is) A person, whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously; (the second is) the one whom Allah has given wisdom (the Holy Qur'an) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for excellence, Use resources wisely, Benefit oneself & others around them

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of not wishing to be like anyone else. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that we should only wish to be like two types of people; those who have been blessed with wealth and use it in a righteous manner, and those who have been blessed with wisdom from Allah and act upon it by teaching it to others. This hadith teaches us that we should strive for excellence in our own lives rather than trying to imitate someone else’s life. We should focus on using our own resources wisely so that we can benefit ourselves as well as others around us.
