Sahih al-Bukhari 753 (Book 10, Hadith 147) #727
Respect During Prayer

SUMMARY: Spitting in the direction of the Qibla while praying is not allowed.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet saw expectoration in the direction of the Qibla of the mosque while he was leading the prayer, and scratched it off. After finishing the prayer, he said, "Whenever any of you is in prayer he should know that Allah is in front of him. So none should spit in front of him in the prayer".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect during prayers by being mindful of your actions and aware that Allah is present at all times.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to show respect during prayer by not spitting in the direction of the Qibla. The Qibla is a special direction that Muslims face when they pray and it points towards Mecca. When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was leading a prayer he noticed someone had spit in this direction and he scratched it off before continuing with his prayer. After finishing his prayer, he reminded everyone that Allah is always present when we are praying so we should never spit or do anything disrespectful while praying. We should always remember to show respect for Allah and for our prayers by being mindful of our actions during them.
