Sahih al-Bukhari 7556 (Book 97, Hadith 181) #7258
The Prophet's Instructions for Faithful Living

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructing a group of people to believe in Allah, pray perfectly, give Zakat and Al-Khumus, and to abstain from drinking alcoholic drinks.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The delegates of 'Abdul Qais came to Allah's Messenger and said, "The pagans of the tribe of Mudar intervene between you and us therefore we cannot come to you except in the Holy months. So please order us to do something good (Religious deeds) by which we may enter Paradise (by acting on them) and we may inform our people whom we have left behind to observe it". The Prophet said, "I order you to do four things and forbid you from four things: I order you to believe in Allah. Do you know what is meant by belief in Allah? It is to testify that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, to offer prayers perfectly, to give Zakat, and to give Al-Khumus (one-fifth of the war booty) (in Allah's Cause). And I forbid you four things, (ie, Do not drink alcoholic drinks) Ad-Dubba, An- Naqir, (pitched water skins), Az-Zuruf, Al-Muzaffat and Al--Hantam (names of utensils used for the preparation of alcoholic drinks)".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the instructions given by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to a group of people who came to him seeking guidance on how they can enter Paradise. He instructed them to believe in Allah by testifying that none has the right to be worshipped except Him; offer prayers perfectly; give Zakat which is obligatory charity; and give Al-Khumus which is one fifth of war booty. He also forbade them from drinking alcoholic drinks such as Ad-Dubba, An-Naqir, Az-Zuruf, Al-Muzaffat and Al--Hantam. These instructions are meant for all believers as they are essential for faithful living according to Islamic teachings. Believing in Allah means having faith in His existence and His Oneness while offering prayers perfectly means performing it with sincerity and devotion towards Him alone. Giving Zakat is an act of worship that purifies one’s wealth while giving al Khumus helps spread justice among those who have been wronged or oppressed during wars or conflicts. Abstaining from alcohol consumption is important because it can lead one away from righteousness if consumed excessively or without moderation.
