Sahih al-Bukhari 7525 (Book 97, Hadith 150) #7227
Following a Middle Path in Reciting Quran

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the verse in the Quran which instructs Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to neither recite the Quran loudly nor too softly, but to follow a middle path.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: regarding the explanation of the Verse:-- '(O Muhammad!) Neither say your prayer aloud, nor say it in a low tone'. (17:110) This Verse was revealed while Allah's Messenger was hiding himself at Mecca. At that time, when he led his companions in prayer, he used to raise his voice while reciting the Qur'an; and if the pagans heard him, they would abuse the Qur'an, its Revealer, and the one who brought it. So Allah said to His Prophet: "Neither say your prayer aloud. ie, your recitation (of Qur'an) lest the pagans should hear (it) and abuse the Qur'an" nor say it in a low tone, "lest your voice should fail to reach your companions, "but follow a way between". (17:110)

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow a balanced approach while speaking or acting out something; Respectfully speak about matters related with faith; Strive for moderation in life; Follow instructions given by Allah SWT through His Messengers PBUH

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the verse from Surah Al-Isra of the Holy Quran which instructs Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to neither recite the Quran loudly nor too softly, but to follow a middle path. The reason for this is that when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to lead his companions in prayer and recited verses from the Holy Book, if any of those who were not believers heard him they would mock and ridicule it. Therefore Allah instructed His beloved Messenger ﷺ not to raise his voice while reciting so as not to give them an opportunity for mockery or abuse. At the same time, He also instructed him not to recite too quietly so that his companions could hear him and benefit from it. Thus Allah has taught us here that we should always strive for balance and moderation in all aspects of our lives - whether it be our speech or actions - by following a middle path between two extremes.
