Sahih al-Bukhari 748 (Book 10, Hadith 142) #722
Refraining From Taking What is Not Ours

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was shown Paradise and wanted to take a bunch of fruit from it, but he refrained from doing so.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas: Once solar eclipse occurred during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger . He offered the eclipse prayer. His companions asked, "O Allah's Messenger ! We saw you trying to take something while standing at your place and then we saw you retreating". The Prophet said, "I was shown Paradise and wanted to have a bunch of fruit from it. Had I taken it, you would have eaten from it as long as the world remains".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of refraining from taking what is not ours. It tells us that even though the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was shown Paradise and wanted to take a bunch of fruit from it, he still chose to refrain himself. This teaches us that we should always be mindful of our actions and think twice before taking something that does not belong to us. We should also remember that Allah knows all our intentions and will reward us for our good deeds in this life or in the hereafter.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught his companions an important lesson through this hadith; if he had taken the fruit, they would have been able to eat it as long as the world remains. This shows how generous Allah is with His rewards for those who obey Him and follow His teachings. We should strive to do good deeds in order to receive such blessings from Allah in both worlds - this one and the hereafter.
