Sahih al-Bukhari 7470 (Book 97, Hadith 96) #7173
Illness as Cleansing of Sins

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ visited a sick bedouin and told him that his illness could be a means of cleansing his sins, to which the bedouin replied that it was only a fever that would make him visit his grave.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Allah's Messenger entered upon a sick bedouin in whom he went to visit and said to him, "Don't worry, Tahur (ie, your illness will be a means of cleansing of your sins), if Allah Will". The bedouin said, "Tahur! No, but it is a fever that is burning in the body of an old man and it will make him visit his grave". The Prophet said, "Then it is so".
