Sahih al-Bukhari 7468 (Book 97, Hadith 94) #7171
The Conditions of Allegiance to Allah's Messenger

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the conditions of the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger and the rewards for those who abide by it, as well as the punishments for those who do not.

Narrated 'Ubada bin As-Samit: I, along with a group of people, gave the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger . He said, "I take your Pledge on the condition that you I will not join partners in worship with Allah, II will not steal, III will not commit illegal sexual intercourse, IV will not kill your offspring, V will not slander, VI and will not disobey me when I order you to do good. Whoever among you will abide by his pledge, his reward will be with Allah, and whoever commits any of those sins and receives the punishment in this world, that punishment will be an expiation for his sins and purification; but if Allah screens him, then it will be up to Allah to punish him if He will or excuse Him, if He will".

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, 'Ubada bin As-Samit narrates that he and a group of people gave their pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger. The conditions set by Allah's Messenger were that they should not join partners in worship with Allah, should not steal, commit adultery, kill their offspring, slander or disobey him when he orders them to do good. Those who abide by these conditions will be rewarded by Allah while those who do not will receive punishment in this world which is an expiation for their sins and purification. However if Allah screens them then it is up to Him whether He punishes them or excuses them.
