The Sense of Ghira in Islam

SUMMARY: Allah has a great sense of Ghira and He forbids shameful deeds and sins. He also likes to be praised.

Narrated 'Abdullah: The Prophet said, "There is none having a greater sense of Ghira than Allah, and for that reason He has forbidden shameful deeds and sins (illegal sexual intercourse etc) And there is none who likes to be praised more than Allah does".
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ أَغْيَرُ مِنَ اللَّهِ، مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَلِكَ حَرَّمَ الْفَوَاحِشَ، وَمَا أَحَدٌ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ الْمَدْحُ مِنَ اللَّهِ

In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad is conveying a message from Allah about His sense of ghira. Ghira is an Arabic term that means wrath or anger, but it can also refer to feelings of jealousy or possessiveness. In this hadith, Allah is conveying that He has a great sense of ghira and for that reason He has forbidden shameful deeds and sins such as illegal sexual intercourse etc. Additionally, Allah likes to be praised more than anyone else does; therefore Muslims should strive to praise Him often in order to please Him. This hadith teaches us the importance of avoiding disgraceful acts as well as adulating God through our words and actions.
