Inviting People Towards Oneness & Obligations

SUMMARY: The Prophet sent Mu'adh to Yemen with instructions for him to invite people there firstly towards Tauhid (Oneness) of Allah and then teach about five daily prayers and Zakat (obligatory charity).

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (ra): The Prophet sent Mu'adh to Yemen.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْبَدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، رضى الله عنهما أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ بَعَثَ مُعَاذًا إِلَى الْيَمَنِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about Prophet Muhammad's instructions for Mu'adh when he was sent as an envoy to Yemen. The Prophet instructed him firstly towards Tauhid or Oneness of Allah - believing in one God without any partners or associates. Then he was told about five daily prayers which Muslims must offer at specific times during day and night. Lastly he was told about Zakat - obligatory charity taken from wealthy members among society and given out as aid for those who are less fortunate. This hadith teaches us values such as generosity, kindness towards others, faithfulness in worshiping God alone etc., all these values being essential components for a successful society.
