Studying the Quran with Agreement

SUMMARY: This hadith encourages Muslims to study and recite the Quran, but when there are differences in interpretation and meanings, they should stop reciting it.

Narrated Jundab bin 'Abdullah: Allah's Messenger said, "Recite (and study) the Qur'an as long as you are in agreement as to its interpretation and meanings, but when you have differences regarding its interpretation and meanings, then you should stop reciting it (for the time being)
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ سَلاَّمِ بْنِ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ، عَنْ جُنْدَبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فَقُومُوا عَنْهُ ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد اللَّهِ سَمِعَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ سَلَّامًا.

This hadith encourages Muslims to study and recite the Quran as long as they agree on its interpretation and meanings. When there are differences of opinion regarding its interpretation or meaning then one should stop reciting it until a consensus is reached. This hadith also emphasizes that understanding the Quranic verses is essential for gaining knowledge from them. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us that we should not be hasty in our interpretations of the Quranic verses but rather take time to reflect on them before coming up with an opinion or conclusion about them.
