Sahih al-Bukhari 729 (Book 10, Hadith 123) #703
The Fear of Compulsory Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was worried that the night prayer might become compulsory, so he stopped praying in his room at night.

Narrated 'Aisha: Allah's Messenger used to pray in his room at night. As the wall of the room was LOW, the people saw him and some of them stood up to follow him in the prayer. In the morning they spread the news. The following night the Prophet stood for the prayer and the people followed him. This went on for two or three nights. Thereupon Allah's Messenger did not stand for the prayer the following night, and did not come out. In the morning, the people asked him about it. He replied, that he way afraid that the night prayer might become compulsory.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow the example of Prophet Muhammad by being careful not to take on more than one can handle .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's fear that the night prayer might become compulsory for Muslims. He used to pray in his room at night and people saw him and followed him in prayer. After two or three nights, he stopped praying in his room out of fear that it would become obligatory for all Muslims to do so. This hadith teaches us that we should not take on more than we can handle and be careful not to make something obligatory when it is not meant to be. We should also remember that Allah knows best what is best for us and will never burden us with more than we can bear.
