QUICK LESSONS:
Ask relevant and necessary questions with respect for others' privacy.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Anas bin Malik, speaks to the importance of not asking unnecessary questions. It is related that a man asked the Prophet who his father was and the Prophet answered him. However, this was followed by a verse from the Quran which states that believers should not ask questions about things which are unnecessary or irrelevant. This hadith teaches us to be respectful and mindful when questioning others and to only ask relevant questions in order to avoid offending people or causing confusion. We should also remember that some things are better left unknown and it is important for us to respect this fact as well as each other's privacy.
