Sahih al-Bukhari 7164 (Book 93, Hadith 28) #6883
Accepting Money with Humility

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught 'Umar to accept money with humility and not to seek it out, but rather give it away in charity.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: I have heard 'Umar saying, "The Prophet used to give me some money (grant) and I would say (to him), 'Give it to a more needy one than me'. Once he gave me some money and I said, 'Give it to a more needy one than me'. The Prophet said (to me), 'Take it and keep it in your possession and then give it in charity. Take whatever comes to you of this money while you are not keen to have it and not asking for it; take it, but you should not seek to have what you are not given'. "

Accept gifts/donations humbly; Use donations/gifts for good causes; Help those less fortunate than yourself; Be content with what you have been given; Give away any extra possessions in charity

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of accepting money with humility. It was narrated by Abdullah bin Umar, who said that he heard Umar saying that the Prophet Muhammad used to give him some money as a grant and he would suggest giving it to someone more needy than himself. However, the Prophet Muhammad told him to take it and keep it in his possession before giving it away in charity. He also taught him not to be too eager for what he was not given or ask for something that wasn't offered. This hadith teaches us the importance of being humble when receiving gifts or donations from others, as well as being content with what we have been given without asking for more than we need. We should also remember that whatever we receive should be used for good causes such as charity or helping those less fortunate than ourselves.
