Sahih al-Bukhari 6978 (Book 90, Hadith 25) #6708
Taking Care of Neighbors

SUMMARY: A neighbor has more right to be taken care of by his neighbor and it is better to give a house as a present to one's son than cancelling the right of pre-emption.

Narrated 'Amr bin Ash-Sharid: Abu Rafi' said that Sa'd offered him four hundred Mithqal of gold for a house. Abu Rafi ' said, "If I had not heard Allah's Messenger saying, 'A neighbor has more right to be taken care of by his neighbor,' then I would not have given it to you". Some people said, "If one has bought a portion of a house and wants to cancel the right of pre-emption, he may give it as a present to his little son and he will not be obliged to take an oath".

QUICK LESSONS:
Take care and be kind towards your neighbors

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of taking care of one's neighbors. It is narrated that Sa'd offered Abu Rafi' four hundred Mithqal of gold for a house. However, Abu Rafi' refused because he remembered Allah's Messenger saying that "A neighbor has more right to be taken care of by his neighbor". This shows us how important it is for us to take care of our neighbors and not neglect them. Furthermore, if someone wants to cancel the right of pre-emption on their house they should give it as a present to their son instead so they don't have to take an oath. This hadith teaches us that we should prioritize taking care and being kind towards our neighbors over other things in life.
