Leaving Islam Quickly

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned that those who do not follow the teachings of Islam will leave it as quickly as an arrow leaves a game's body.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Regarding Al-Harauriyya: The Prophet said, "They will go out of Islam as an arrow darts out of the game's body'.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانُ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ـ وَذَكَرَ الْحَرُورِيَّةَ ـ فَقَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ "‏ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلاَمِ مُرُوقَ السَّهْمِ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how people who do not follow the teachings of Islam will quickly leave it. The Prophet Muhammad is warning us that those who do not practice what they are taught in Islam will be like an arrow leaving a game's body - they will go out of it very quickly. This hadith teaches us to stay true to our beliefs and practice what we learn in order to remain part of the Islamic faith. It also reminds us that if we stray from our faith, we may find ourselves leaving it just as quickly as an arrow darts out from its target. We should strive to stay on the path of righteousness and remember that Allah is watching over us at all times.
