Sahih al-Bukhari 6792 (Book 86, Hadith 21) #6534
The Consequences of Stealing

SUMMARY: Stealing is wrong and should not be done, even if it is something of small value.

Narrated 'Aisha: The hand of a thief was not cut off during the lifetime of the Prophet except for stealing something equal to a shield in value. A similar hadith is narrated from 'Aisha through another chain.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect other people's property and never take anything without permission from its rightful owner.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that stealing is wrong and should not be done. It also tells us that if someone does steal, they will face punishment for their actions. The punishment mentioned in this hadith was cutting off the thief's hand, but only if the item stolen was equal to a shield in value. This shows us that even stealing something small can have serious consequences. We must remember to always respect other people's property and never take anything without permission from its rightful owner.
