Sahih al-Bukhari 6787 (Book 86, Hadith 16) #6529
Punishing the Poor and Forgiving the Rich

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned against punishing the poor and forgiving the rich, even if it was his own daughter Fatima who committed a crime.

Narrated 'Aisha: Usama approached the Prophet on behalf of a woman (who had committed theft). The Prophet said, "The people before you were destroyed because they used to inflict the legal punishments on the poor and forgive the rich. By Him in Whose Hand my soul is! If Fatima (the daughter of the Prophet ) did that (ie stole), I would cut off her hand".

QUICK LESSONS:
Treat everyone fairly and with respect regardless of their social status or wealth. Apply justice equally without giving preferential treatment to anyone because of their power or money .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about justice and fairness. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned against punishing the poor for their mistakes while forgiving those who are wealthy or powerful. He said that if his own daughter, Fatima, were to commit a crime he would still punish her according to what is fair and just. This hadith teaches us that justice should be applied equally regardless of someone's social status or wealth. We should not give preferential treatment to anyone because of their power or money; rather we should treat everyone fairly and with respect.
