Ownership of a Child

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that the child belongs to the owner of the bed.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The boy is for the owner of the bed".
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ الْوَلَدُ لِصَاحِبِ الْفِرَاشِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about ownership and responsibility for a child. It was narrated by Abu Huraira, who reported that the Prophet said, "The boy is for the owner of the bed". This means that if a man and woman have a child together, then they are both responsible for raising it. The father has an obligation to provide financial support and guidance while the mother has an obligation to provide love and care. Both parents should work together in order to ensure their child's wellbeing. This hadith teaches us about responsibility and how important it is for parents to take care of their children. It also reminds us that we should not neglect our duties as parents or shirk our responsibilities towards our children.
