Sahih al-Bukhari 6668 (Book 83, Hadith 46) #6413
Forgiveness in the Face of Tragedy

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the battle of Uhud and how Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman's father was killed by his own people due to a misunderstanding. Despite this, Hudhaifa continued to ask Allah for forgiveness for those who killed his father until he died.

Narrated 'Aisha: When the pagans were defeated during the (first stage) of the battle of Uhud, Satan shouted, "O Allah's slaves! Beware of what is behind you!" So the front files of the Muslims attacked their own back files. Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman looked and on seeing his father he shouted: "My father! My father!" By Allah! The people did not stop till they killed his father. Hudhaifa then said, "May Allah forgive you"'.Urwa (the sub-narrator) added, "Hudhaifa continued asking Allah forgiveness for the killers of his father till he met Allah (till he died).

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask Allah for forgiveness on behalf of others even if they have wronged you or caused you pain or suffering; be patient in times of difficulty; show mercy towards others; forgive those who have wronged you; seek justice from Allah rather than taking matters into your own hands; remain steadfast in your faith despite any trials or tribulations that come your way.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the battle of Uhud, which took place during the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. During this battle, Satan shouted out a warning to the Muslims that there was danger behind them. Unfortunately, some of them misunderstood and attacked their own people in front instead. One such person was Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman whose father was killed by his own people due to this misunderstanding. Despite this tragedy, Hudhaifa asked Allah for forgiveness for those who killed his father until he died. This hadith teaches us that even in times of great tragedy and pain we should still forgive others and ask Allah for mercy on their behalf as it is an act greatly rewarded by Him.
