QUICK LESSONS:
Take our words seriously and be mindful of our speech; Repent and seek forgiveness from Allah; Make expiations when necessary; Be merciful towards others' mistakes due to forgetfulness.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the mercy of Allah in regards to unintentional oaths. It is narrated by 'Aisha that Allah will not call us to account for any unintentional oaths that we may have made. The verse from Surah al-Baqarah 2:225 was revealed concerning such oath formulas as "No, by Allah!" or "Yes, by Allah!". If someone makes a mistake due to forgetfulness then they should make expiation for it. This is also mentioned in the verse from Surah al-Ahzab 33:5 which states that there is no blame on us if we make a mistake therein. Additionally, this idea of mercy towards mistakes due to forgetfulness can be seen in the verse from Surah al-Kahf 18:73 where Moses asked Khadir not to call him to account for what he forgot. Therefore, this hadith teaches us that even though it's important to take our words seriously and be mindful of our speech, if something slips out unintentionally then there's no need to worry as long as we repent and seek forgiveness from Allah.
