Sahih al-Bukhari 6653 (Book 83, Hadith 32) #6399
Testing of Bani Isra'il

SUMMARY: Allah tested three people from Bani Isra'il by sending an angel to them. The angel asked for help and the three people responded differently.

Narrated Abu Hurairah that he heard the Prophet saying, "Allah decided to test three people from Bani Isra'il. So, He sent an angel who came first to the leper and said, '(I am a traveler) who has run short of all means of living, and I have nobody to help me except Allah, and then with your help'." Abu Hurairah then mentioned the complete narration.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with your wealth & resources no matter how little or much you have; Keep your promises even if they are difficult; Use your resources wisely & don't be selfish; Be kind-hearted & generous towards others in need regardless of their own situation/financial status

EXPLANATIONS:
Allah wanted to test three people from the tribe of Bani Israel, so He sent an angel in the form of a traveler who was in need of help. The first person he approached was a leper, who showed kindness and offered him food and shelter despite his own poverty. The second person he approached was a wealthy man who refused to help him because he feared that if he helped the traveler, his wealth would be reduced. The third person was a middle-class man who promised to help but did not fulfill his promise when it came time for action. This hadith teaches us that we should always be generous with our wealth and resources no matter how little or much we have, as well as keep our promises even if they are difficult to fulfill. It also shows us that those with more resources should use them wisely and not be selfish with their possessions or money. Lastly, it reminds us that Allah is always watching over us and will reward those who are kind-hearted and generous towards others in need regardless of their own situation or financial status.
