Sahih al-Bukhari 6632 (Book 83, Hadith 12) #6379
Loving the Prophet ﷺ More Than Oneself

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that one cannot have complete faith until they love the Prophet ﷺ more than their own self.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Hisham: We were with the Prophet and he was holding the hand of 'Umar bin Al-Khattab'.Umar said to Him, "O Allah's Messenger ! You are dearer to me than everything except my own self". The Prophet said, "No, by Him in Whose Hand my soul is, (you will not have complete faith) till I am dearer to you than your own self". Then 'Umar said to him, "However, now, by Allah, you are dearer to me than my own self". The Prophet said, "Now, O 'Umar, (now you are a believer).

QUICK LESSONS:
Love the Prophet more than your own self.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that in order to have true faith in Allah and His Messenger, we must love the Prophet more than our own selves. This is because loving Allah's Messenger is a sign of true faith and devotion to Him. We must strive to put our love for Allah's Messenger above all else in order for us to be considered believers. It also teaches us that we should not be selfish with our love and devotion; instead, we should share it with others who are devoted to Allah as well.
